General Information

English Testing Canada strives to hire people who represent the linguistic and cultural diversity of our candidates. We also welcome applications from Indigenous Canadians, and from people of all genders, religions, and nationalities. Applicants must be legally eligible to work in Canada and have fluency in English.

We mostly hire from August through November, as our busy season runs from January through April, and most positions require training and/or certification. If you are interested in joining the ETC team, we frequently hire invigilators and clerical markers on a part-time basis, and welcome applications.

Strong applicants will display good written communication skills in their applications, as well as a willingness to work on weekends. We look for staff who are friendly, alert, and observant, and who have enthusiasm for working as a team in a progressive setting.

1. IELTS Examiners (hiring round 2017EDa) - Deadline: August 28, 2017

We are looking for suitably qualified and experienced individuals to join our team of IELTS Examiners. IELTS Examiners are responsible for conducting speaking tests to IELTS standards. Most speaking examining shifts are Saturday afternoons and evenings, with occasional Sunday and Thursday work available.

Minimum Professional Requirements:

  • An undergraduate or Master’s degree or a qualification which can be demonstrated to be equivalent to an undergraduate or Master’s degree.
  • A recognized qualification in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) or recognized equivalent as part of a recognized university award course.
  • At least 3 years’ full time (or the equivalent part time) relevant TESOL teaching experience (minimum one year post-certificate level qualification). The majority of this teaching experience must relate to adult students (16 years and over).
  • The required professional attributes and interpersonal skills.

2.  IELTS Clerical Markers - Deadline: September 10, 2017

We are looking for suitably qualified and experienced individuals to join our team of IELTS Clerical Markers. IELTS Clerical Markers are responsible for marking the Listening and Reading components of the IELTS test. Most clerical marking shifts are Sundays and Mondays, with occasional Friday work available.

  • A competent level of English to enable full understanding of the complexities of the IELTS Marking Policy

Invigilators are responsible for the set-up, administration, checking-in process, invigilation, and clean-up of the IELTS and MELAB exams. Most shifts are Saturday mornings and early afternoons, with some work available on occasional Thursdays and Sundays.

Our mission is to provide fair tests in a friendly and progressive setting. We believe everyone should be treated with dignity and respect. Tests are open to everyone and scored without bias. Many of our staff are multilingual, and our goal is to have our staff reflect the diversity of our candidates. 4.  Assistant IELTS Test-Centre Administrator, Full Time (Edmonton) - Deadline: September 5, 2017

Employer: English Testing Canada/ETC West

English Testing Canada (ETC) is an authorized provider of British Council IELTS examinations. We provide secure and confidential testing in a progressive and friendly environment, and currently have multiple venues in Ontario and Quebec. ETC is opening a new centre in Edmonton (ETC West) in October 2017.

Starting Salary: $40-$45K per year plus full health/dental benefits paid after three-months’ probation. Salary may increase with testing expansion. This is a progressive position.  

Description: Working under the direction of the Test-Centre Administrator, the Assistant will provide excellent customer service (answering phones, assisting candidates with registration, providing score reports). The Assistant will also prepare secure test materials, invigilate examinations, and coordinate materials for examiners. This position requires regular weekday availability, along with 3 Saturday shifts per month, for a total of 40 hours per week.

Qualifications

Skills: This position requires highly developed administrative and organizational skills in a high-volume work environment, with a clear understanding of test-taker confidentiality and exam security. The Assistant must be detail-oriented, well-organized, and precise. Required computer skills include MS Office; Google documents; email; social media; and high comfort level with new technologies. Work with specialized online databases will be required.

This is a position working with newcomers to Canada who varying levels of English language skills. The Assistant must be patient in communicating, be able to stay calm under pressure, and have an interest and facility in cross-cultural communication.

The Assistant must have excellent English language communication skills in both speaking and writing. An additional language (particularly Mandarin or other Asian or South-Asian languages) would be an asset.

 Experience: At least three years’ office experience; experience in a customer service position; work experience in education, especially ESL education, or experience in an academic environment would be an asset. Direct experience with IELTS or other high-stakes testing would be ideal. 

Education: Relevant undergraduate degree or equivalent.

Other: a valid driver’s license and CPR training would be an asset.

5. Client Services Associate (Toronto) - Deadline: posted until filled

English Testing Canada (ETC) is a busy English language education and testing centre that emphasizes excellent customer service.

We are looking for a Client Services Associate for a full-time contract position.  

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Excellent English language skills (written and spoken)
  • Verbal fluency in Chinese Mandarin (Cantonese, and other languages also an asset).
  • Detail-oriented skills, including accurate data entry, ability to alphabetize and file accurately.  
  • The ability to provide clear information in high-pressure situations.
  • A friendly and progressive attitude with strong cross-cultural communication skills
  • An understanding of client confidentiality and document security

Duties include answering phones and email, greeting students and test-takers in the office and on test days, assisting with exam invigilation, and entering data into online databases. Skills include use of Excel, Word, and general computer competence.

Starting Salary: $15-18 per hour
